But anyway, this piece is my entry for this year's Tomie dePaola award given to an illustrator of promise. The winner will be featured in the Portfolio Showcase at the annual winter SCBWI conference in New York. (for more information http://www.scbwi.org/awards/tomie-depaola-award/)
The assignment this year is to cast yourself as a child in a picture book, show your autobiographical character in a scene and make sure to convey the emotion of your character.
